Company co-founders Lettie and Allen Bennett
(also known as “AB”) are pictured here in 1945.
In 1946, AB returned to the U.S. after serving his country in World War II. Shortly after his return, he and Lettie opened a Sinclair Gas Station, located on Dixie Highway in Oakland Park, Florida.
In 1947, Lettie and AB welcomed their first son, Harold, the current president of Bennett Auto Supply. He’s pictured here on the right in a very early photo of the Bennett family, with his brothers, Dale (middle) and Barry (left).
By the late 1950s, Bennett’s auto supply business was growing and soon it was the primary focus of their operation, prompting AB to incorporate Bennett Auto Supply, Inc. in 1957. Pictured here is Harold Bennett a few years later in 1965, delivering parts to local South Florida Bennett Auto Supply stores and other auto parts dealers.
Much like the business itself, the Bennett family continued to grow through the coming decades. Soon, a new generation of Bennetts began, including Harold’s son Scott (Executive Vice President) and daughter, Jennifer (Assistant Director of Store Operations & Sales) along with Barry’s son Justin (General Counsel) and daughter, Kate.
By the 1970s, the Bennett Auto Supply family was servicing an ever-growing customer base throughout South Florida. Here, AB and son Harold pose for a quick picture in their auto parts delivery vehicle, circa 1976.
In 1996, Bennett Auto Supply celebrated its 50th year in business. The family-owned operation expanded from a single location to 33 stores located throughout Central and South Florida.
In 2000, Bennett Auto Supply opened a 92,000-square-foot distribution center located at their corporate headquarters in Pompano Beach, Florida. The distribution center uses state-of-the-art technology to serve the needs of each of the Bennett Auto Supply locations, as well as wholesale customers and consumers.
In 1946, Allen Bennett (also known as AB) and his wife, Lettie, opened a Sinclair Service Station and small grocery store in Oakland Park, Florida, where they sold bicycles and appliances to local clientele. In 1954, AB and team began supplying tires, batteries and accessories to other Sinclair stations in Broward County. By 1957, their auto supply business was growing and soon became the focus of the operation, leading AB to incorporate Bennett Auto Supply, Inc.
Over the next decade, Bennett saw rapid expansion and the addition of a new company warehouse for better distribution. In 1957, Bennett established Ben Clair Inc., a symbolic combination of his company namesakes, Bennett and Sinclair. Over the coming years, the company would grow tremendously, ultimately becoming the area’s largest automotive parts supplier.
Today, the company is owned and operated by AB’s sons, Harold and Barry, who manage the organization under the original incorporation name of Bennett Auto Supply, Inc. More recently, a third generation of Bennetts have joined the team, including Harold’s son and daughter, Scott and Jennifer, as well as Barry’s son, Justin.
The group has seen wide expansion since their humble mid-century beginnings, boasting 34 store locations, a 92,000-square-foot distribution center and corporate office in Pompano Beach, and more than 500 employees.
